Lara is a 1929 Shermann Hoyt design built at the famous Nevins yard on City Island, New York. Lara sailed the East Coast of United States until late 1970’s, until sold to Toronto, Canada, where she actively raced at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. In 1993 Lara was acquired to Helsinki, Finland, where she continued to race. Lara has had extensive work done over the years, including a new deck and cockpit, renewal of the underwater planks and interior. In 2020 Lara had a 18hp Yanmar diesel engine installed to make manoevring to port and short-handed easier. The engine has been installed so that it is reasonably easy to remove, if required, though there has not been noticeable effect to speed.
Lara has beautiful lines and is magically fast especially downwind and in light wind. Her hull is mahogany on oak frames with a teak deck. In the Worlds Lara races in the SIRA class, which is the largest sub-class.
She has an aluminium mast and North Sales kevlar sails (incl. main, no 1, no 2 and no 3 and spinnakers). The running rigging and trims have been designed so that she is also easy to sail short-handed. The interior is stylish and has been fitted with four bunks, galley, chemical toilet and two portable mahogany caskets for cruising gear.
During racing the caskets are left ashore making the cockpit spaceous for the crew.
Lara is an absolute joy to sail. She is a fast racer, but also fun to cruise. Lara is located in Helsinki, Finland.

Nei Mondiali Lara gareggia nella classe SIRA, che è la sottoclasse più numerosa. Ha un albero in alluminio e vele in kevlar North Sales (incl. Randa, n. 1, n. 2 e n. 3 e spinnaker). Le manovre correnti e le finiture sono state progettate in modo che sia facile da navigare anche a corto raggio. L’interno è elegante ed è stato dotato di quattro cuccette, cucina, wc chimico e due cofanetti in mogano rimovibili per l’attrezzatura da crociera, che viene lasciata a terra durante le regate.
Lara è una gioia assoluta da navigare. È un racer veloce, ma anche divertente in crociera.

Progettato dallo skipper dell’America’s Cup Sherman Hoyt, Lara è stata costruita nel 1929 presso il famoso cantiere Nevis di New York. Lara ha navigato fino al 1993 sulla costa orientale degli Stati Uniti e al Royal Canadian Yacht Club di Toronto, fino a quando è stata portata in Finlandia. Nel corso degli anni ha subito numerosi lavori di ristrutturazione, come la coperta, il sedile e gli interni in teak rinnovati e la sostituzione delle assi del pavimento. Nel 2020 Lara è stata dotata di un motore diesel Yanmar da 18 CV per facilitare le manovre in porto della barca. naviga bene con un equipaggio ridotto. Lo scafo di Lara è costruito in mogano su archi di quercia. Durante la fase di costruzione sono state utilizzate viti in bronzo al posto di quelle in ferro, grazie alle quali le ordinate originali sono ancora in buone condizioni.
Lara è una barca veloce e ha avuto successo nelle competizioni. Lara ha vele in Kevlar, spinnaker e vele di scorta di North Sails. Sebbene Lara sia progettata principalmente per le regate, funziona bene anche come barca da turismo. La barca ha quattro posti letto, una dispensa e un wc chimico. Inoltre, il vassoio del sedile ha bauli in mogano rimovibili per riporre e sedersi e un tavolo in mogano.
